Oil on Canvas
Artist: Yuroz
Created in honor of his first exhibition in Dubai, “Before the Journey” stands as Yuroz’s visual tribute to the spirit, strength, and enduring beauty of Arab culture. This painting was more than a featured work—it was a personal offering. “I didn’t want to go there and tell them about me,” the artist reflects. “I wanted them to know that I had taken the time to learn about them—that I admire their culture, and this is how I interpret what I’ve learned, through my art.”
Moved by his emotional first visit to the UAE and inspired by his research into the region’s cultural heritage and remarkable transformation over the last three decades, Yuroz sought to portray both tradition and ambition. Nations like the UAE have shaped vibrant cities from the desert, investing in community and vision. In this work, the central figure—a dignified Arab man—embodies this spirit, poised at the threshold of a new journey with quiet resolve and purpose.
At his side stands a noble white Arabian horse, long revered in the Middle East as a symbol of power, loyalty, and grace. The horse’s calm submission to its master conveys an unspoken bond of trust and control, mirroring the man’s inner strength. To the right, a woman extends a traditional dallah coffee pot and cup in a gesture of welcome. Her form gently merges with the trunk of a date palm—an intentional metaphor. In Bedouin culture, the palm tree is a sacred symbol of life: its fruit nourishes, its branches provide, and every part serves a purpose in sustaining desert life.
Yuroz’s distinctive cubist approach—defined by angular forms, rhythmic brushwork, and a rich, warm palette—transforms the composition into a poetic, almost mythic narrative. Geometric clouds and stylized hills evoke both dream and memory. Each fractured plane invites reflection on time, identity, and transformation.
Before the Journey is not just a scene—it is a statement. It captures a moment of offering, a pause before action, where hospitality, harmony, and human connection are elevated to their highest form. In blending artistic expression with cultural homage, Yuroz offers a timeless reminder: that art, at its most powerful, becomes a bridge—creating space for dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect across cultures.
